Dr. Khaund is a board-certified internist with a certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine, and serves as the head of sports medicine for Care New England. Specializing in non-operative sports medicine, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in natural sciences from Johns Hopkins University, and a medical degree from New Jersey Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Brown University, including a year as chief resident. He also completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Hughston Orthopedic Clinic in Georgia, where he worked as a physician for the 1996 Olympic Games.
Dr. Khaund has earned many awards for his teaching and practice of sports medicine, including being consistently named a “Top Doc in Rhode Island” in sports medicine by Rhode Island Monthly magazine, earning the Art Tuveson Award from the University of Rhode Island’s hockey program for contributions leading to success, and a Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award at the Alpert School. Dr. Khaund is on the Sports Medicine Advisory Board for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, and is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. He is currently the team physician for Bishop Hendricken High School, Roger Williams University and the University of Rhode Island hockey team. He was selected as team physician for Team USA-University Hockey Select Team that competed in the 2009 World University Games in China. His interests include the role of anti-inflammatory medications in musculoskeletal medicine as well as concussion in sports.
