The Center for Pain Management
State-of-the-art anesthetic management is provided for all types of surgery and for all ages and risk groups in Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island's operating suites, recovery units and Surgical Place day surgery center. A 24-hour in-house anesthesia service is provided for the Birthing Center's labor and delivery rooms.
The Center treats patients with disorders of the neck, back and chest; those with extremity pain, sciatica, neuralgia, migraines and cancer; and patients with pain after surgery. Available treatments include:
- Epidural infusions.
- Injection therapies.
- Physical and occupational therapies.
- Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS).

Patients scheduled for surgery meet with representatives of Anesthesiology as part of their surgical preparations.

School of Nurse Anesthesia
The Department of Anesthesiology also includes the School of Nurse Anesthesia, which holds an academic affiliation with Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in New Britain, CT. On completion of the program, students receive a Master of Science Degree in Biological Sciences/Nurse Anesthesia from CCSU, as well as a certificate of completion from Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.
