Rhode Island, “the biggest little state in the Union,” is situated 50 minutes from Boston and 3.5 hours from New York City and is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. Natural resources include some of the finest opportunities for swimming, fishing and sailing, on the east coast. The state is also convenient to the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont, states famous for sight-seeing, hiking, and skiing, and the beaches of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
In addition to the many cultural offerings at Brown University, the state is also home to the Rhode Island School of Design, Trinity Square Repertory Company, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, all nationally acclaimed in the fine arts.
Activities on the Brown University campus are open to Memorial residents. These include theater, dance, sports and music events. Nearby, Rhode Island College, Providence College and the University of Rhode Island also offer cultural and sports events.
