Some disorders and disabilities can slow or prevent your child’s development, motor skills, behavior and language. At the New England Pediatric Institute of Neurodevelopment, we partner with you, your child and your pediatrician to provide whatever services are needed to prevent that from happening and to help your child become an effective learner.
We use neuropsychological testing to evaluate the whole child to understand how he or she fits into the family, community and school, including the areas where he or she is having trouble. We interview the child, and find it helpful to have input from teachers, therapists, and other health care professionals involved with the child.
In addition, we offer:
- Child and adolescent psychiatry consultations.
- Counseling, through our affiliation with The Providence Center
- Medication consultations.
- Neurology evaluations.
- Occupational therapy evaluations
- Parenting help through Incredible Years, a curriculum-based program for children under the age of five with behavioral disorders.
- Speech and language evaluations.
Caring for your child
Once we have evaluated your child, we will talk to you about our findings and suggested plan of care. You are an important part of your child’s care team, and our parent consultant will connect you with resources at school and in the community that can help.
Your child may come in for regular follow-up visits to monitor progress and manage any medication. We can also talk with teachers and others involved with your child’s education to suggest ways they can help.
When your child is ready to move into the adult health care system, we will also provide help and support through the transition.
