While the health care providers at Memorial Hospital are taking care of your health or the health of your loved one, the licensed clinical social workers in our Social Services Department are trained to help with support services that cater to your basic living needs and emotional needs. They are essential parts of the health care team as they work to identify needs and make sure they are met.

Memorial’s social workers are available 24 hours a day for inpatient needs, and provide a variety of support services for patients and their families as needed, including:

  • Onsite counseling.
  • Letters of support to a doctor, employer or insurance agency to explain a diagnosis or the need for a leave of absence from work.
  • Bereavement support.
  • Support groups. In addition, the social workers connect people to the appropriate services in the community, including those that can help with:
    • Financial needs such as rent payments and help with utility bills.
    • Payments for medication through prescription assistance programs.
    • Food.
    • Transportation to medical appointments.
    • Mental health services.
