Prepared Childbirth Classes (4th Session)

Details: This series meets for four weeks in Sayles Conference Room 1. The classes are recommended for women during the last two months of pregnancy to teach about labor and birth. Topics covered include labor coping skills, breathing patterns, when to go to the hospital, a tour of the hospital, birth movie and newborn care.
Sessions include: May 7, 14, 21 and June 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Where: Ambulatory Care Building at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island

Details: The Breastfeeding Support Group sponsored by Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island will meet on Wednesday, June 6 and 20, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The meetings are held in the Ambulatory Care Building at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, 89 Pond St., Pawtucket.
The support group is led by a certified lactation consultant and provides breastfeeding support for mothers after discharge from the maternity unit. The group offers continuous encouragement and opportunities for breastfeeding mothers to meet and share their experiences with others. Nursing babies and their siblings are welcome.

You are Not Alone - Cancer Support Group

Details: You Are Not Alone, a support group for people living with cancer and their caregivers, will meet at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island
on Wednesday, June 6 and 20, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in The Cancer Center located on the ground floor of The Center for Primary Care.
You Are Not Alone provides an opportunity for cancer patients and their significant others to be with people who understand them and what they are experiencing. The purpose of the group is to increase participants’ knowledge of cancer, focus on coping skills, and help participants adapt to living with cancer. The support group also provides an opportunity for cancer patients to express their experiences and emotions, and will introduce participants to specialists in the field of oncology.

Diabetes Support Group

Where: Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island

Details: The Diabetes Support Group, an on-going group of individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, will meet at Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Sayles Conference Rooms 2 and 3. The support group meets regularly on the first Wednesday of each month.
The members of the Diabetes Support Group are encouraged to share experiences and learn about diabetes management from each other. A registered, licensed dietitian coordinates the group.
Joan Varan, a registered pharmacist at Memorial Hospital will share information on diabetes medications. Please bring your questions and a list of your medications.

Infant CPR Class

Details: All parents and caregivers should know how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to an infant and child, this class will teach them that skill. General safety concerns are also addressed. This is a one-time session.
The next class is scheduled for June 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Sayles Conference Room 1. The cost is $28 per person, $39.50 per couple. Some insurance will cover some classes.
