Details: This series meets for four weeks in Sayles Conference Room 1. The classes are recommended for women during the last two months of pregnancy to teach about labor and birth. Topics covered include labor coping skills, breathing patterns, when to go to the hospital, a tour of the hospital, birth movie and newborn care.
Sessions include: October 11, 18, 25 and Nov 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Details: The Breastfeeding Support Group sponsored by Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island will meet on Wednesday, November 7 and 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The meetings are held in Wood 2 at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.
The support group is led by a certified lactation consultant and provides breastfeeding support for mothers after discharge from the maternity unit. The group offers continuous encouragement and opportunities for breastfeeding mothers to meet and share their experiences with others. Nursing babies and their siblings are welcome.

Details: You Are Not Alone, a support group for people living with cancer and their caregivers, will meet at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island
on Wednesday, November 7 and 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in The Cancer Center located on the ground floor of The Center for Primary Care.
You Are Not Alone provides an opportunity for cancer patients and their significant others to be with people who understand them and what they are experiencing. The purpose of the group is to increase participants’ knowledge of cancer, focus on coping skills, and help participants adapt to living with cancer. The support group also provides an opportunity for cancer patients to express their experiences and emotions, and will introduce participants to specialists in the field of oncology.

Diabetes Support Group

Details: The Diabetes Support Group, an on-going group of individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, will meet at Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Sayles Conference Rooms 2 and 3. The support group meets regularly on the first Wednesday of each month.
The members of the Diabetes Support Group are encouraged to share experiences and learn about diabetes management from each other. A registered, licensed dietitian coordinates the group.
Here comes Thanksgiving! Time to celebrate turkey and football. Come learn how to pick your sides. Linda Carro, RD will share tasty recipes and healthy menu ideas so you can choose winning side dishes without sending your blood glucose levels out of bounds. She will also provide a few new side dishes to taste test.

Gloria Gemma Hope Bus at Memorial

Details: The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation’s 38-foot pink vehicle, known as The Hope Bus, will provide free services for cancer patients, their families and the local community at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. Services are open to all cancer patients.
The Hope Bus will be available outside of The Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital every second Thursday of the month. The next date will be November 8th from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Gloria Gemma Foundation utilizes the eye-catching RV to carry out its Mobile Resource and Wellness Center. This outreach program is designed to serve individuals in RI, with a focus on people who are un – and underinsured and low-income minorities.
Aboard The Hope Bus various services include: drop-in healing arts and spa services; one-on-one consultations with advice on breast cancer treatments; support groups led by licensed facilitators; and walk-in educational classes on specific topics related to breast health.
The Hope Bus features: full kitchen; living room space with a sofa; fireplace; multi-use healing room; and multi-media center with a wide-screen TV, DVD player and computer station and audio/visual recording studio.

Details: Breastfeeding classes, in English, are offered to women during pregnancy at Memorial Hospital. The class will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $23. Some insurance will cover some classes.
The class is led by a certified lactation consultant and teaches parents to be about benefits, feeding cues, positioning, and frequency of nursing in the early weeks.
