Karen Zangari, of Lincoln, RI, has been named Outstanding Dietitian of the Year by the RI Dietetic Association (RIDA) for her volunteer work and media outreach. A part time employee at Memorial Hospital, she is a research dietitian for the Choose to Lose Study in the Center for Primary Care and Prevention.
Karen is an active member of the town of Lincoln’s Health and Wellness Committee, part of the school committee. Ms. Zangari has been instrumental in the implementation of a program called “Table Hosting,” which has been nominated for a Healthy Living Innovation Award through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She has also worked with town officials in applying for the “Safe Routes to School” grant.
Karen is the host of the radio show, “Food First” on 1240-AM WOON, discussing food and nutrition issues. She serves on the board of directors of RIDA as its media representative, with numerous appearances on NBC10 and RI PBS, as well as on ABC6, WPRI, NPR, and several local radio shows.
Karen also works as a consultant with Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI and The Center for Cardiac Fitness at Miriam Hospital. She received her Master’s degree in Nutrition and Food Science from URI and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Providence College.
