The upcoming Diabetes Outpatient Education program at Memorial is designed to educate anyone with preexisting or new diabetes. The program consists of six classes that run for two hours each.
Matthew McSoley, RN, CDOE, cardiac rehabilitation nurse, and Nancy Egelhofer, RD, CDOE, clinical nutrition manager, will direct the program. The classes will cover diet, skin care, standards of care for diabetes, and how to use and choose a blood glucose meter. Instructors will also discuss coping with diabetes, preventing complications, dealing with and preventing high and low blood sugars and dealing with sick days.
Most health insurance plans will cover the cost of the educational program for those who are referred by a physician. Copays may apply, depending on your insurance.
Class size is limited. For more information or to register, call Memorial’s Ambulatory Specialty Clinics at (401) 729-2241 or (401) 729-2503.
