What is an Ultrasound?
← Back

Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to create still or video images of soft tissue areas of the body.  To capture these images, first an ultrasound gel is applied to the skin over the area to be viewed.  A hand-held instrument called a "transducer" is then glided slowly across your skin as an image appears on the ultrasound monitor.  Ultrasound procedures are relatively painless and quick. All Ultrasound studies are performed by specialty trained technologists that have Board Certification in Ultrasound (US) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (www.arrt.org) or the Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (www.ardms.org). Your studies are reviewed and interpreted by Radiologists that are Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology (www.theabr.org).
